Administered by the Belfast District Museum Trust Inc, and adjacent to the historic Old Schoolmaster's House (built 1877) on the Kapuatohe Historic Reserve.

The museum houses an extensive photograph collection plus objects from earlier days from the Belfast District (originally "Styx", and including Belfast, Northwood, Coutts Island, Ouruhia, and part of Redwood).

Historical books on the Belfast district are for sale.
